I was watching the ABC morning show yesterday on May 22 and saw something that gave
me a very good feeling about Wyndholme Village and what we are attempting to do at this
wonderful community.
A man was introduced who has worked as a custodian at Pennsylvania University for a long time.
He was graduating from the university this year after working on a degree for ten
years! He put his daughters through college and finally himself...a commendable
achievement!
When asked what courses he found to be his favorites, he said he
appreciated them all and just liked learning. But most he enjoyed
Shakespeare and he really loved learning American Sign Language and
communicating with deaf people and learning about deaf culture.
I thought that was a wonderful thing and it made me doubly proud to be a part of bringing
this community into being. People often ask me will hearing people move to Wyndholme?
And I always say absolutely. Hearing people are very interested in
living in a beautiful place, living a full and happy life...and that even includes
leaning signing. I'm sure we will have one big happy family of people enjoying an interesting and
satisfying lifestyle.
My deaf cousin who lives in Pennsylvania tells me that at her seniors
club they often have hearing people attending and learning to
sign. I think that is one of the amazing things about hearing,
hard-of-hearing and deaf people. Once people get together they
always find a way to communicate. Communication is what Wyndholme is
all about.
Please come and visit real soon. You will want to
live here too.
Sincerely,
Scott MacDonald
