Wyndholme Village Breaking News

October 12, 2000

by Barbara A. Willigan
Executive Vice President
Wyndholme Village Operations

Excitement is building as Construction nears for Wyndholme Village.

The future residents of Wyndholme Village met on Friday, October 6, from 11:30 to 3 PM.  Over a delightful lunch, they held their meeting.  Their next meeting is scheduled for November 3rd and their Holiday party will be held on December 8th.  The residents also decided to have their own traditional, annual, holiday party.

Later on, Bill Braughton and Jim Lancelotta joined the group.  Jim expressed his gratitude for the future residents loyal support of Wyndholme.  Jim then outlined the preparations that are being taken for construction to begin.

The future residents then had a host of questions related to construction of their residences and selection of appliances, carpet/floorings, and kitchen cabinets.  Bill who is in charge of construction, took over.  The residents were very satisfied with Bill’s answers and expressed how much they look forward to moving into their new homes!  To view the questions and answers, click here.

Out of this question and answer period, several ideas developed which will be seriously looked into and reported on in the near future.

Wyndholme would like to know of any ideas, questions and/or concerns you may have about the community and we encourage you to email them to us by December 1, 2000!  Anything that may come to mind might turn into a wonderful idea for all the residents—so don’t hold back anything!  Click here to go directly to the email page or you can post your comments in the Wyndholme Village Guestbook.  THANK YOU!

Retired Television Star Visits Wyndholme!

Audree Norton, retired television star of Mannix, Sesame Street, and other television programs, and her husband Ken visited Wyndholme Village Monday, October 9 with future residents Alyce and Bill Stifter.  Audree and Ken are in town for the Gallaudet University Homecoming and Class Reunion events this week.

Audree and Ken were impressed with Wyndholme Village's beautiful site and the whole program.  Audree stated that it is about time that deaf seniors can enjoy their golden years with dignity!

Here is a quote about Audree Notron from the Gallaudet Encyclopedia of Deaf People and Deafness.

"Audree Norton from the National Theatre of the Deaf, was the first deaf person to act on television when she portrayed a deaf character in an episode of  Mannix in 1968.  This was followed by a number of other roles.  Norton and other deaf performers and technical advisers exerted their influence on the deaf image on television."

Wyndholme Village hosts its first Annual
“Employee Appreciation” Day.

The event was held on Thursday, September 30.  In addition to a very nice lunch, employees participated in a game with questions related to Wyndholme Village’s history.  It was interesting to see how much each employee knew or did not know about the community.  Certificates of Appreciation were given out, along with short comments on each employee’s contributions to Wyndholme.  Jim Lancelotta's driving skills were recognized, so he was awarded a shiny, brand new, toy, “bulldozer”.  The event was a wonderful time for all with witty conversation and great food.  See you next year!!
